Below is the effecive gear ratios through the transmission gear and rear end gear. Even with tall 3.23 gears the 8l90 has the 6l80/3.73 covered in all but the first gear

Trans-8l90----8l90----6l80----6l80
ratio--3.23----3.42----3.42----3.73

Gear
1----14.70---15.57---13.78---15.03
2----9.46----10.02----8.07----8.80
3----6.70-----7.09----5.23----5.71
4----5.46-----5.78----3.93----4.29
5----4.10-----4.34----2.91----3.17
6----3.23-----3.42----2.29----2.50
7----2.74-----2.90
8----2.10-----2.22

What don't I like? Ummm well the sliding back glass has quit working. The front passenger side window quit working. When I had the Rousch it was limited to 100mph....thanks but I don't need a speech either on what is safe road speeds. If you buy the Rousch that f......er should run 140 anytime you wanted...just saying. Also you couldn't power brake it unless you wanted it to wheel hop. The ONLY reason I got the Ford is due to the air vents pointing at my boys.

I don't really want to be a beta tester for the 8-spd and I feel like it would be searching constantly for the right gear.

Camcamaro...Looks mostly like it’s made for city driving and getting under way with heavier loads, towing and cursing will be about the same, but the L86 6.2 has more power it should be a good comb

Yeah, I'd probably do the same amount of cursing. Sometimes even worse than usual.

It would be the equivalent of having 3.73 with the 6 speed and tacking on another gear to have even less RPM when unloaded on the highway.
I get what your are saying, have you ever seen a rear gear burn up from pulling max load over big mountain passes?

A lot of states I guess doesnt have long pull mountain grades

I have not seen that and frankly didn't know it was really a problem that 3.42 vs 3.73 would really have end effect on.

I can tell you that my 4:56 6L80 pulled to the top of pikes peak and red mountain pass in Colorado and a few others heading to telluride silverton and Ouray pulling a 22 foot flatbed loaded down with a scrambler and tons of tools and spare parts without breaking a sweat. It's pulled my jeep up there 4 years in a row and never disappointed. But I passed more than a few overheated 1/2 4wd 5.3 6L80E's pulling campers up the same way I was heading and one denali which is limited to 3:42's.

I did the same trip with stock 3:73's and it did pretty good but my first trip up in this truck in 10 is what prompted me to change it to 4:56's
