Default 6l80 to 6l90 swap

To start off.. truck is a 09gmc 5.3 2wd crewcab 6l80

I picked up a 12 L96 6.0 and 6l90 trans complete. My trans along with my engine are not in the best of health. Im wanting to swap the 90 in place of the 80. Ive googled a good bit and searched around but I havent come up with much.

So far I know that the trans is longer so the driveshaft will need shortening. the output is 34 spline where the 80 is 32. Im sure the crossmember will more than likelt need chamging as well. What im wondering is more on the electrical side of things and what i will need to make the trans work. Im hoping that other than the size difference that most will be the same.

I have the ecu and everything that come off the vehicle.. only thing I dont have is the harness which was chopped up in removal of the engine/trans.

If anyone has any info or can steer me in the right direction of a swap thread that would be awesome.

Thanks for any and all help

Converter and electrical plug are the same. The yoke for the 6l90 is alot bigger than the 6l80. The 6l90 uses a 1410 u joint i believe.

Thanks, I knew the yoke is bigger.. I been meaning to start really digging into this swap more but Ive had some other things going on at the moment.

So I guess I can buy a yoke swap the trans in and then massage the mount to work ect then the rest is tuning as far as the trans goes

The stock driveshaft will not work. The yoke is bigger than the end of the driveshaft lol.

Ive go to do some research on it and see what I can do. Pretty sure the driveshaft lenth will be fine and im sure that some one probly makes a conversion joint for whatever size I need...I hope. If im going to have to have a custom dshaft and stuff built I might as well just build my 80 and leave it be

They dont make a hybrid u joint that size. There is a MAJOR size difference in u joints for the 6l80 & 6l90. Trust me i tried this on my brothers turbo truck. I talked to several driveshaft shops and none could find a u joint that came close so we kept the 6l80.

Do you you know anything about using the stock transfer case and swapping a 90 in for an 80? Besides obvious spline differences and the changing of the driveshaft...is there an input shaft that can be changed or do I have to change the whole transfer case?
