Default Surprising Chevy 4.8 Cam Gain?

Alright guys, so this isnt my truck and jusy would like to make that known. This is a close friends truck i did all the work on.

Well he has an 06 Chevy Silverado 4.8 1500RCSB. Still even have the stock chrome steele wheels on it. He recently purchased a cam from Texas Speed. He got a 212/218 Cam with Pac Springs and pushrods. It took us about 4 hours to do the swap without pulling heads.

Well we finally got it dynoed today and to the results it did better than what we thought. Keep inmind the only mods he has is a K&N Intakr kit, and Gibson shorty headers eith stock cats and a true dual exhaust. He even had the stock 3 23 gears! (Will be seapped with 4.10s later

Well he made a total of 291rwhp and 278rwtq. Keep in mind this was done in 2nd gear pull so numbers are off about 25rwhp and 25rwtq. So thats 318rwhp and 306rwtq.

Thats impressive for a small baby 4.8 with a very small 212/218 cam from TSP!!

Huge shout out to Avery and TSP for the supplies!!

The 212 218 has proven itself to be a stout little cam over the years. I just got one for my stock 6.o tow turd. Cant wait to see how it does.

That sounds like a strong runner.

However not once have I seen gains in 3rd gear compared to 2nd gear anywhere close to what you are claiming. In fact the last vehicle I had on the dyno actually lost HP and TQ in 3rd gear opposed to 2nd gear. It was a 4L80E with the stock trans tune. 2nd gear had the converter locked, 3rd unlocked but the fact remains it put down more power 2nd/Lockup than 3rd/Unlocked. Torque converter locked vs unlocked difference is about 10 RWHP and the same torque on a 4L80E with the stock converter.

Yeah i was pretty surpirsed with the gains over the stock cam. Especially in a 4.8. I ordered my 220r through them and got my 2 in valves for my 705 heads that are milled .30 so im really excited. Only thing the tuner did that i didnt like was set the shift points super high. Something like 6700 or so.

I dont know if its a little different with a stock converter and a 4l60e but on my truck it dynoed 290ish in 2nd gear and then we did 3rd to get a 1 to 1 ratio and thats when its dynoed in the 300 hundreds. May not he a whole 25 rwhp and rwtq but there is a slight difference

212/218 TSP is a GREAT cam for a stock motor,
and works REALLY well under a Supercharger too.

He has stock 3 23 which are being swapped to 410. But it drives almost stock with stock converter. The tuner even adjust timing to give it a slip lope thats harder abd drives great!

That's what I was alluding to, should've been clearer. Have you swapped in the 4.10's and, if so- how life now.............
