so..reusing connecting rod bolt and mains..yes or no?

Default so..reusing connecting rod bolt and mains..yes or no?

ive seen most people say theyve reused them, but then theres some that say dont..seems like its kinda up in the air..would like to hear some evidence that people that reused them are still going strong

In old gen chevys, you can reuse them, however I do not think you can with the new gen(lsx)

You can reuse the rod and main bolts. I've reused them on every engine rebuild I've done.

They say they're to to yield
But I reused the mains and used arp rod bolts

Not that it hasn’t been done before and the engine survive, you shouldn’t reuse the factory rod bolts in an LS type engine, as they are torque-to-yield unlike the main bolts that are simply angle-torque’d bolts, which can be re-used a few times as long as they haven’t been damaged or over torque’d.

Specifications on LS1 How-to show the rod bolts as torque to angle. Are these values incorrect?

GM says that the mains AND rod bolts can be re-used. I've done it and never had a problem.

I did a test on the main bolts when i dis-assembled a short block 5.3. A TTY bolt will stretch and stay stretched. i measured all the old bolts and compared them to the new GM bolts i ordered. The specs were identical. Had i known this, i would have re-used the mains. Didnt mess with the rod bolts and i ended up with ARP's.

Your correct, GM does say that where bolt replacement is necessary it will be listed in the individual repair procedure and it does not mention it for either the crank nor rod bolts. It does appear some may be confused over the use of an angle torque meter for TTY and angle-torque bolts, as they both require it. Of course I didn't help with the confusion with my previous post.

thanks for chiming in guys, ive been doing some research and seen that the ARP rod bolts wont work unless you get the rods machined??? why is this? should i just go with a new set of gm factory rod bolts...if what im reading is true, i might just reuse the mains and rod bolts.
