I've considered running a drag radial on the street but not sure how safe that is

As far as regular driving, the ET street radials are excellent. But not to be run in wet/rain.

DRs are necessary at that level.

+1

street tires are that HP level are not a good idea, my car on plain street tires will roast at 60/70mph if i just stab the throttle and sometimes roast up tol 90mph not to fun

guess I've decided on just running two setups with a boost controller so I will have a street setup for wheels. but for the race set I was thinking something like this? http://goo.gl/lc7JP2

so let me get this straight. you want:

1) cheap
2) great traction
3) good wear

I've been around this block. you can only pick one.

cheap = no traction
great traction = not cheap or good wear
good wear = not cheap or enough traction for ~750

i've tried just about every tire out there with the same goals as you have... for 18" wheels, your best option is the nitto 555R. the best option is to drop down to a 15" wheel and fit the biggest mickey T et street S/S you can stuff in there. the nitto 555R is a great tire...the Mickey Thompsons are amazing.

so look up above and narrow your wants down to 1 and you have your answer.

i see mickey thompson makes 18" et street s/s tires now. 305/40-18 looks good if you absolutely dont want to go down to a 15" wheel...

thats why I am doing two rear setups now. I havent ruled out the 15" option just yet. was wanting to see if anyone had an 18" DR hooking near that level.

see my last post. mickey thompson has options outside of 15" now. that will be the best tire option IMO. remember foot control in the rain. it's not terrible, but not great either.

305/40-18, 305/45-17,
