wouldnt know what would be causing this without looking at the truck but next time they plug up go with some high flow cats from Magnaflow or Random he will be able to keep the factory exhaust (Quiet) and not have to worry about clogging cats anymore. But this isnt the way to fixing a problem tho just a better way of preventing it. Theres a reason its doing this. Is the truck throwing any codes? Maybe its running to rich and dumping fuel? Flex Fuel?

How is his gas milage? There is an underlying problem if the cats are burning up that quickly. Something is causing it to run rich. Look into cleaning the MAF, getting fresh O2s, new plugs/wires. Could even be an injector stuck open on that bank.

i talked to him again and he said he melted one down??? i dont see how that can work. they are made out of titanium and tungsten right? if they are and getting that hot the whole truck would burn up. tungsten melts at like 3500 degrees Celsius

No titanium, no tungsten. Internally, they have a honeycomb-like core, made of ceramic. The holes are very small, and run the length of the core. The core is about as long as the fat part of the shell. Mixed in with the ceramic are little flecks of platinum, palladium, and other weird metals.
The walls of the holes in the ceramic are very thin, and the inlet edges will start to melt and clog the holes.
I don't know the reason, but I think that the reason that we don't have the ability for lean cruise is that the converters will melt.
