Default 2006 Sierra Vortec Max good deal????

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the sight and was excited about seeing a lot of info. I'm about to purchase a 2006 Sierra with the Vortec Max package and wanted to make a post and see if it was a good deal and ask for any advice that you guys may have...It is the SLT with leather, crew cab, has 79,100 miles, 4x4, a small lift but I'm now sure how much or the brand, brand new 35" Nitto Terra Grappler A/T G2 tires on 18" wheels, new muffler but again I don't know brand (sounds more throaty than factory), ARE camper, billet grill, line-x bed liner, chrome nerf bars, leather, Bose, power seats, pretty much every option but the sunroof, LQ9, M70, NHT, GT5, G80, ZX3, KC4, KNP, Z82, and a bunch of other codes that I'm not sure what they mean.

It has only had 2 owners and zero red flags on the carfax. So far everything checks out fine. I'm going to take it for 24 hours and see if there is anything that is a red flag but so far it looks like a really clean truck. The only concern is there is a little bit of rust on the frame, none on the fenders or body. Also, there is some pitting on the chrome wheels from road salt. I'm from Arizona and I'm not familiar with rust but it looks like it is minor.

They dealer is asking $20,600 and KBB says it's worth $18,392 if I was buying from a private party. If I can get the dealer down to $18, 392 I think I would buy, what do you think. Good deal or no? Thanks for any advice!

Its a beautiful truck but I wouldn't pay above book value and I'm surprised a dealer is asking above book. I bought an 05 with 62k miles above book and while I love the truck, I get bored and want something different and I owe more than truck would bring if I sell or trade. Just something for you to think about.

The LQ9 is the motor size/name. So 6.0 Vortec and is better than the older LQ4.

G80 means is has a limited slip rear diff, so it locks if it feels one wheel is slipping but only up to around 25 mph. For dirt and snow take offs type thing. Can be broken pretty easy if you are driving it like you stole it everyday.

Z82 is the suspension package if I recall correctly. The other RPO codes you'd have to google but likely tell you that it's a 4X4, has 4.10 gears, 4L70e transmission, leather etc etc etc.

Surface rust on the frame happens to ANY truck that doesnt have a full undercoating. It's a non issue, I'm from minnesota and every single truck has some sort of surface rust on the frame.

Gas mileage and ride quality will be poor with those size wheels and tires. Not that gas milage would be great anyway without them. The 6.0 and 4.10 gears might be only good for 10-13 city and 16-18 freeway, though I'm sure people have gotten better if you try really hard.

And that price seems too high for me for that old of a truck. I just bought a 2012 crew cab for around 22k a few months ago up here. Maybe 14-16k would be a better ball park for me anyway if I wanted a clean rust free truck of that year.

Vortech High Oputput= VHO is 2004-2005
VortexMAX 2006- up

A real 04-05 VHO was not available with 4WD. In 2006 with the VortecMax, they changed that as well as the gear ratios available.

05 was the first year a sun roof was available from the factory. Again something they didn't really advertise or push. Only like 10% or less of truck's received them.

Thanks for the info everyone. Here is what KBB has a far as prices. This is the SLT model with every option but the sunroof/moonroof. It has brand new 35s, a lift, and a ARE camper.

This truck is in Good condition based on KBB.

If IBuy From Dealer
25,202
23,162 Fair Purchase Price
21,121

If I bought this truck from a private party
21,304 Excelent
20,283 Very good
18,834 Good
17,751 Fair

I have the truck with me overnight to check everything out. The only thing that I can complain about is a little rust. But from what I have been told it is minor and can be taken care of. What are your thoughts?

The rust is treatable, But I see the Exhaust was replaced and some one welded hanger mounts to the frame.

I still couldnt see paying that much, Maybe if it was really clean, no rust. I would be concerned with the front and rear differentials as well as the Brake components.
