Default 05 Escalade Maintenace

Hey guys, I just bought a super clean one owner 2005 Cadillac Escalade with the 6 liter LQ9 and want to go through the truck and do all of the basic maintenance items. What do you guys recommend for plugs, wires, oil, filter, trans fluid, diff fluid, air filter etc etc

Thanks!

Stock AC Delco 41-110 plugs work great for stock engines.

Stock delco wires or pretty much any parts store wire set that has a warranty are good enough. I've ran a mix of everything and never had an issue.

I run wix filters from napa and pick whatever oil you wish. There is not best this or best that as it's pretty much a personal preference when it comes to oil and the application you are using it in. I run whatever synthetic oil is on sale at the time, brand makes no difference to me.

Run what the dipstick calls for, so that is likely Dexron 6 fluid and buy a new delco filter or wix filter for the transmission.

Same with the diffs and transfer case, run what it is calling for. Likely 75W90 in the front and rear diff, you need to run a limited slip fluid or add a bottle of friction modifier to the oil. I normally do both. The transfer case likely runs Auto-trak fluid.

I thought you don't need to run friction modifier or lsd fluid if you have a G80?
Auto trak fluid for the t-case aka smurf jizz. When you open the bottle you'll know why it's aptly named. How many miles are on your escalade?

Thanks for the info so far. I am pretty excited to get this!

Miles are pretty high, 194k. Original owner had the trans replaced 4 years ago at around 150k miles. I'll post some pictures later today, its amazingly clean for the years and miles.

How do I tell if it has the G80 rear end? Is it buried in the VIN somewhere?

Open the glovebox and the service parts identification decal (SPID) should be in there. You'll also see a code starting with GU or GT. That will be your axle ratio

I used a VIN decoder, looks like its 3.73. Still need to check and see if it has the G80.

Don't use limited slip modifier in a G80... GM even has a TSB out specifically stating not to use it as it just delays engagement or causes it not to activate at all. Tcase is likely a borg warner 4481 being awd and calls for atf.

Equipped With a Locking Rear Differential RPO G80

------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- -----

This PI was superseded to update model years. Please discard PIP4054C.

------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- -----

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
Customers may comment on a chatter or shudder from the rear axle on vehicles equipped with an Eaton locking differential. This condition would be noticed in parking lot maneuvers, turning, or during locking differential engagement and may be more noticeable when the differential is hot. Locking differential clutch chatter may be causing this concern.

Notice: This does not apply to vehicles equipped with RPO QS4 (Quadrasteer) which is part of option package NYS. Quadrasteer vehicles use Dana axles and have a different fluid requirement.

Notice: This PI does not apply to vehicles equipped with a RPO G86 limited slip differential.

Recommendation/Instructio ns:
If differential clutch chatter is encountered in a vehicle equipped with an Eaton locking differential, flush, drain and refill the differential with new synthetic fluid, use the fluid part number listed in SI for the vehicle currently being worked on. If the condition returns, replace the rear differential clutch plates and refill the differential with new synthetic fluid, use the fluid part number listed in SI for the vehicle currently being worked on. Refer to eSI for clutch plate replacement and set up procedures.

Notice: Eaton locking differentials used in 10.5 rear axles are equipped with steel clutch plates. It is a design characteristic of these steel clutch plates to exhibit more clutch chatter than other models.

Important: Installing any friction modifier causes the clutch pack in the locking differential to slip and miss engagement. A fluid flush can often remove debris that is a contributor to clutch chatter. Adding friction modifier additive can cause a loss of locking differential functionality.

Notice: On Quadrasteer equipped vehicles, simply flush the rear axle and refill with the fluid listed in SI document 793720 under the steerable application.

My fathers 05 Cadillac had DEX 3 on the stick but all the computer systems at (napa, autovalue, etc.) say to use DEX 6

We used dex3

2005 was the switch over year or somewhere around that if I remember right. I know from being in the 3800 world for a while that many of the early 2005's ran Dex3 and then the later 2005 in to 2006 cars ran dexron 6. I assumed that it's going to be dexron6 but read the dipstick first to be sure. You can use dexron 6 in a dexron 3 year vehicle but I prefer to stay with what they called for and if they keep selling the fluid, I'll use it.

As for the friction modifier part, I didn't know about the TSB but I haven't had an issue doing it. Perhaps it was because I didn't use synthetic fluid to begin with and then added a tube of the FM/addative. It's the amsoil slip lock stuff or the Trans-X Posi-trac fluid.
