Default Yukon or a eaton trutrac posi

Did some looking and there are of course pros and cons to both, some people broke one but not other. Wanted to get opinion before I buy?

Yukon Duragrip is like a posi that has clutches, while the Trutrak has no clutches. And aftermarket 3rd member is better than stock as it has much more meat than the stock G80 3rd member or stock open 3rd member.

What do you mean by aftermarket 3rd member? Are you talking about the 10 bolt itself.

I was speaking in general terms about the rearend.
The 1st member, refers to the engine, the 2nd member refers to the trans, and the 3rd member refers to the rearaxle assembly.

To be more specific, what I was really meaning was the carrier assembly of the rearend, an aftermarket carrier is one that wasn't available from an OEM(Original Equipment Manufacturer). When compared to the stock/PEM carriers, almost every aftermarket carrier is inherently stronger.

Here is a picture of a stock OEM open carrier next to a Detroit Trutrac. Look at all that extra beef. Both are from/for a 10 bolt 8.5/8.6. The OEM G80 locking rear dif is even weaker.

make sense now. Rons machine shop said my truck would do fine with a Yukon since im not boosting it. It is the cheaper of the two, but something tells me to go with a eaton, idk why.

I just installed truetrac last week in my truck. Hands down the best money ive spent on the truck yet. With the right carrier bearings and races i think it was $450 shipped. Works great!

For what it's worth I blew up 2 Yukon Duragrips in less than 2,000 miles, and now have had a Truetrac for the last 50,000 miles.

When I exploded my G80 I did a lot of research between Auburn and the Truetrac. Everything I read was at least 5 to 1 Truetrac. My buddy who did the install pushed for the Auburn but after I bought the Truetrac he admitted that he's used Truetrac on several trucks from the coal mines and has yet to see 1 come back. Good enough for me.
