NEW DRIVESHAFT IN!!!

Drove truck around this evening, and stall'd up to 1800 a few times. Above 75% throttle will spin tires from a dig, but surprisingly 50 - 75 % will pull the truck hard. Gotta get o2s right, so I can tune it. Timing's reduced on the top end... seriously!

I got up to 95 twice. Me being nervous about the last problem, caused me to be cautious enough to back down quickly.

Money tree died after only growing one leaf. On a budget again. ...but happy to be riding.

I realize it's been over a month since last post, but any new progress? This thread is now almost a installation guide for me. I have an '86 C-10 with a 350 that ill (sooner or later) be putting a 5.3 into......freaking awesome thread. Good pics, good tech, everything is good, i've spent the last hour and a half reading every post and looking at every picture for the first time. Keep it up man

Thx! I've tapped a good bit of resources while working on this, and have gotten awesome help. Still working bugs out of tuning, but things have definitely gone positive (despite a few set-backs). Here's a vid of a 14.37 run I made (first time out):

That was the third of three passes. The very first pass was a 14.66. I've made some timing changes, and it pulls harder than the 14.37 run (based on 0-60 logs. I hope to get back to the track soon. Will update as I go along.

Finally got a work-around for the idling/surging issue. Still need to revisit RAF tables, but I'm satisfied with it for now. Need to save for some new tires. Went to make a pass on a two-way street, and broke sideways twice.

Figured I'd add to this old thread...

Like Nick... I'm not one for "how to's", but here's some pics and short descriptions of what was done in sequence:

Engine coolant drained from truck (need to find a cleaner method)

Water pump gots ta git (bolts tag'd & bag'd in a zippy)... Six bolts to remove

Timing Cover went bye-bye (10 bolts there)... Along with pulley, cam gear, chain, & block plate that holds in cam... sorry no pics of that being removed individually... sped up in the interest to save boredom (sp?).

Gotta have a couple rods (metal or wooden) to shove in motor to hold lifters up. Sorry, but no actual pics there... assumed the supervising cameraman had taken pics of that, but doh! Assumption is the mother of all f-ups.

Pushrods came out, THANKS NICK!

The cameraman, aka Island Boy, took a nice shot of...

...when this should've been captured in action

Oh well... long story short, lubed the cam, and installed it & pushrods in. Supervising cameraman & pulley uninstall helper had to leave for an LSU kickoff shindig (Thanks Matt & Nick respectively). Re-installation of other parts went smooth. Started the truck up and rev'd a few times after letting it idle for over 10 minutes.

Here's what went in...

224/224 .568/.568 114lsa cam & 7.4 Comp pushrods

Waiting on trans to arrive Wednesday, install a shift kit, and the C10's back... on the road again!
