Default Thrust Bearing Failure

Any of you guys that have come across this issue ever nail down the cause?

I recently did my TSP220 cam swap...DOD/VVT Delete. While I had it apart I figured why not have new cam bearings, main bearings, rod bearings, and Piston rings put in.

Put it all back together with a new Circle-D triple disc and Tru-Cool 40K.

Ran it for about 250 miles and wasn't liking the 25PSI HOT idle oil pressure. So I pulled the pan to look at the O-Ring on the pump. That was good. Upon further inspection found cooper in the oil. Ended up being the thrust bearing.

I am afraid of it happening again. I don't like my daily driver being out of service.

The tq converter needed no shimming. It had perfect spacing when it was installed. Truck ran fine, trans ran fine.....

I don't know what to do.....

I have had this problem due to Trans pressure pushing the torque converter forward causing the thrust bearing to wipe out. Ended up being in the Trans pump for my situation

When you installed the bearings did you roll them in or did you pull the crank??? On the ls engines you are supposed to smack the crank backwards and forwards a couple of times with a soft faced hammer to seat the crank in the bearings if you dont it can tear up the thrust bearing.... Also did you plastigage the bearings??

Pulled the crank. And yes the crank was set.....plastigage was used as well.

What if I try putting the stock converter back in?
Can it be something in the tune?

I guess it could be tune related if it is causing a pressure issue in the trans.

I do know this, it's practically impossible for a motor to destroy the thrust. There just isn't anything putting a load in that direction. The problem is from the flywheel back.

Let us know what you come up with here. I have never had our billet stuff balloon any even in 1500HP stuff so I am very confident that is not it. But could be a restriction in the new cooler or lines causing back pressure in the converter and it is pushing away from the trans. Not super common, but have seen it.

I am going to test the cooler lines at idle when the engine is back together. Anybody know the acceptable range of pressure it should be?

They are brand new GM lines since the old ones leaked. Just added the 40K TRUCOOL. Which I might remove and put the old one back in because of the cold winters here.

My gut feeling has me feeling its trans related. But it worked so perfectly before the mods.
I had PCM of NC do the tune and they swear its not in the tune. So we'll see once the gauge is hooked up.
