Thoughts on 370 build

Since you seem to have all your answers already then go ahead already
I personally wouldn't reuse the lifters...for 120$ it's not worth to skimp
A fresh motor I would use a used cam
Also wouldn't use a weaker piston then stock

I agree that new lifters might be good.
Is that a typo? You would or would not use a used cam?
The piston is not a stock piston. Its a hyper Speed Pro. No need for anything more.
Just trying to no over spend or under spend for what I need or want.

They were recommended by some of your counterparts here.
I dont disagree with you.
I just already have a spare engine. If the engine does not check out, then maybe a used engine would be the way to go.
Can you answer any of the questions I have asked though?
Do you know the advertised duration of a lq4 or lq9 cam?
If true or not, can a improved valve spring increase the power level of the lq4 cam?

Valve springs won't help power on a stock cam, stock cam starts falling off after 5500 and if your not getting valve float then it won't do anything. Springs won't gain you power, they keep you from loosing it. Cam specs are not just about duration, it's about valve events, open and close and overlap. Ls6 cams make ok power but are going to be more top end oriented and this will make it feel weak at low rpm in a heavy truck.

Lq4 and lq9 are same motors minus piston
Speed pro are junk, that's what you install in your old tired 350
Ls6 makes torque and is larger then stock truck cam but it's not same as a performance cam
Tbss and ls2 cars have a older ls6 cam factory
So something to think about
Valve springs don't gain ya power

The LQ4 I have seems to run out of steam at around 4700. You can turn it more but does not seem to be doing anything.
I seem to remember that when the beehives came out that help to hold power on longer as you say. Maybe Im confusing something there.
The lq4 only has 9.5 to 1 compression and if you bump that up a .5 to one full point on the compression with the added cubic inches a ls6 cam should be about the same in a 370 as the lq4 cam is in 364 cubic inch engine.
Where am I wrong on that?

There are two ls6 cams but they are not much difference.
What do you think of the above post about adding compression to larger cubic inch engine to make a ls6 cam act like a lq4 cam in a 364 cubic inch engine.
Remember this aint trying to build a bracket winning engine. Just a solid daily with GM parts, if you can, without breaking the bank. Somebody might not want something that you might can use.

I prefer diamonds they are in both my motors
Wisco is another good option
But when using stock rods you gotta find stock replacment pistons
I say find a good low mile motor

6ci isn't going to do anything power wise for you to feel, the ls6 cam doesn't make good lowend, it's a higher LSA and designed for a light car. Ask anybody that has ran one in a truck normally aspirated. If you want to run it then have at it. Do a stock low mile motor like George suggested with a mild torque cam and tow away.
