Many have, it is more work to do it but can be done.
Just a few things are different between the GEN 3 and GEN 4 engines. The newer 6.2 is a 58x crank trigger compared to the older 24x. Knock sensor locations are totally different. I believe the cam sensor locations are different too. Depending on year, it may have VVT and a 99-05 computer couldn't control that, so you'd have to remove it. There are more things too but those are some basics.
