Default Is the stepside the lightest truck you can get?

If not, which truck & with what options would produce the lightest truck? What would this truck weigh?

I think a 2wd Reg. cab stepside is the lightest fullsize pickup you can get. This is the setup I'm looking at for my truck project.

It should come in between 4000-4300# range. Its so hard to find an actual weight for a certain truck. It seems that the same trucks can weigh hundreds of pounds different which just doesn't make sense to me.

Look at www.chevrolet.com . Go to the brochures and download one for a Silverado. Go to the last couple of pages and there will be weights listed for every different combination. These weights include payload so you will have to deduct for that, its listed so just subtract it. I've found that these listed weights don't seem to match up with actual measured weights but, it will help give you an idea.

I know from checking the drag forum you have a pretty quick f-body. Are you going to get hardcore with a truck now?

Just thinking out loud.

No reason why a stepside shouldn't be able to run quicker than the Lightning.

Think C5-R block, stage 3 LS6 heads, and a 250-300 shot. Lighten up the front of the truck, fat tire in the back.... Hmmmm. :

We put both trucks on the scales and the stepside trucks are heavier then the reg bed trucks by 100 to 150 pounds.

Just goes to show you that you can't trust the curb weights listed on the Chevy website. They have the stepsides weighing in just a little below a fleetside.

Oh well, I like the looks of the stepside so thats what I'm getting.

A little extra weight over the back wheels may actually help a bit with a high horsepower app.

You don't happen to remember the weights and configurations of the trucks you wieghed do you? I'd appreciate it if you could post them.

Thanks

John

Put that extra money towards a set of C5R heads and custom intake. The heads should more than make up for the extra 80#'s of block.

OR

If money is not a problem build a complete C5R motor. Save weight and add power at the same time. Easy 10 sec. streetable truck!

Yep, stepsides are heavier. They sell Chevys with a composite bed option now (but being light in the rear is not such a good thing for traction - especially if going with a C5-R engine). For front end weight loss check out http://www.gtsfiberglass.com/pro_truck.htm
