Default Possible Castech head leak

I bought my brothers truck, 2004 4.8 1500 w 160k. It was leaking coolant when he had it and he replaced the water pump, head gaskets, and lifters, cause they where making noise. Anyways i have the truck now and its been using about 12-20oz of water every 2-4 weeks. I will look to see if my vin and RPO is the same as the TSB for this problem. I dont want to risk getting another set of these heads that are bad. So what heads can I replace them with? I dont want to have to do anything to the new heads if possible.

243's are popular and will give you a bump in compression. 317's with a thinner headgasket.

Yeah but the 243 have to be shaved to bring comp back to the stock 4.8 comp. And then what about push rod lengths. Its my daily driver and can only be down for the weekend. I will be doing the job myself.

Find a later set of 706's then, something after the castech days. I would think 04-06 years or something.

Swapping to 243's or anything else would require tuning the computer for changes in heads/airflow.
