Truck Mag Rant
I'm about to open a can of worms here:
Steet/Custom Truck Mags
Time for a little rant. No flames intended or need to be replied with.
[rant on]
Some of these mags are starting to bother me anyway. When is the last time you saw a clean non graphicized steet cruising truck in a mag. To many are just way over done IMO. The classic truck sections are a traveling show, same trucks month after month and little info on them. One month had a 55 or 56 Ford in it and didn't even say what year it was. The write ups for the features usually consist of who painted it and wheel and tire info without back spacing #'s that eveyone wants. Where is the infomative performance info? Drop the owner a byline in there. I mean I don't understand why anyone would lift a 2wd truck other than 1"-2" (tech article in latest issue). I know it may be the trend, but it doesn't float my boat and all the 4x4 guys laugh at them anyway. Get a 4x4 and do it right. Hell another truck mag was showing an N20 install that was wrong (some of you know which one I'm talking about)Very few of the tech articles are informative enough to duplicate at home. How many times have you seen tech articles that involve lowering or lifting, I would say every freakin month. How many ways can I lower my Chevy ? Once a month? Do a bi annual lowering tech special then. I guess I'm getting tired of all the jump out and go wow you like it or not trucks these mags feature. Quit making projects last all year. One mag said it themselves "The best way to get noticed at a show is to have our logo across your windshield" Come on Leghumpers, you can do better. I got to stop now.
[/rant off]
Sorry so long, I just had to get that out. I have nothing against show trucks in any way, infact I like them. The mags are just getting reduntent.
Disclaimer: Opinions in this rant do not necessarily reflect the veiws of LS1Tech or other staff members.

I hear ya Greg. You wouldn't be referring to the dry nitrous install (Sport Truck I think)where they tapped the nozzle into the intake tube AFTER the MAF? I would like to see the results of their first test drive

Yep, that's pretty much why I never bothered renewing my truck magazine subscriptions years ago, they never go in depth or give specs. The other day I looked through a truck magazine where they were lifting a 2wd 2500HD. The article did a very good job of showing how they lifted the front, but not one word was said about how they lifted the rear. I guess it just magically raised itself 6 inches.
The best magazine out there is GM High Tech Performance. They just about always give the specs of the cars. I just wish they had more late model truck stuff.

Re: Truck Mag Rant
As for the NSO on the 4.8 hot truck, they rigged that up. To top that they said that they are going to put a Magnacharger on it with the 100 shot. Ive got the same s/c, but with a 100, done wrong I dont know, I think they are looking fr an excuse to nuke the pistons and buy a Cady 6.0, cause thats whats going to happen. I agree with you guys on the articles. What kinda slapp happy fool would lift a 2wd, unless its got a 700hp motor mad for baja racing, another thing that pissed me off, is that knowbody ever goes inside the motor, its always header, coolair intake, catback ect....... the worst part about everyone of the mags out there is that there is 2000 pages of sales adds, and 10 real pages worth of articles. It just blows.

ALL TRUCK MAGAZINES
I know exactly how you feel
RE: the nitrous truck thing...that was a huge debacle. They were describing wet but using dry and even still using a differnet dry at that (They were using a modified 5176-vacuum boosting set-up..NOS trademark tech)

Re: Truck Mag Rant
Have you ever noticed that Muscle Crustangs and Slow Fords Mag dynos there test vehicle before and afer every mod. They also use local shops to do the dyno testing. They also use customers veicle when they do this, unlike the truck mags where 9 out of 10 times there using a truck from a local drop shop, and they rarley dyno before and after each mod.

Maxmumboom: You double posted, I got rid of one for you. I agree about the catalogs these mags have become. I understand that they need advertising, But take that out of some and you end up with a "Sport Truck Pamplet"

Re: Truck Mag Rant
man i dont even look at those magazines anymore. i bought one or two a while back and since then havent felt the urge to look at those types of trucks. Even if i was the type that liked to "rice out" my truck i still wouldnt do that. damn, how nice intake exhaust WHOOOAAA BUDDY!!! they prob get more of a gain from turning the 45 25" subwoofers they cram in there backwards.
haha... so... does ANYBODY like those magazines?

Re: Truck Mag Rant
Ya know, i agree with what you say, but i gotta say... i was impressed with the April '02 issue of Sport Truck. They had two new Chevy pickups that were HOT. One was a 1500 regular cab shortbed that the builder dropped the 8.1L and im guessing the 4L80E (didnt say ) with a Dana60. It was a very clean looking truck, with some nice interior and exterior accents. The other truck was an '02 3500 HD crew cab dualie with the turbo diesel. Both of these trucks were very nice, and while it is a crappy sport truck mag i say go out and buy it. i was very interested in these trucks, i think you would be too.
