Default old lq4 towing upgrade

Hello everyone. Just purchased my first chevy. 2000 c2500 bought to pull. Has the lq4 but with iron heads-gotta go-,so I'm looking for head/intake suggestions. Having looked around a bit I was thinking 799 heads(243), a 210 218 cam or possibly the 212,218 hi lift comp cam. Really don't know about the intake. Long tube headers are in the budget. Will be towing a max of 15000 lbs. I do plan to have a custom tune as soon as I finalize the build. You folks know a lot more than me about these engines and what they like. Little help? Thanks.

Looks like you've done your homework!! The 799 heads and the cam's your looking at should do well. Maybe look for a tbss intake or a 07 and up truck intake. Keep in mind you will want to upgrade to a aftermarket 90mm cable driven throttle body with either if these intakes. The injectors will need to be upgraded also...8.1's or flex fuels would be a nice upgrade.

Why would you need to upgrade the injectors when your not upping the cubic inches? Are the stock injectors that close to being maxed out at stock usage? No possibility of upping the pressure a bit? Just asking. As far as the intake goes ,porting the one I have now is a waste? Thanks for the reply.

The 78mm intakes aren't worth porting for the 5-10hp you might pick up. The 90mm option is light years better. 212/218 should be great and 243s will give you a small boost in CR and loads more flow. The issue with the injectors is the fact that as you add more power (cam, heads, boltons, etc) you will need more fuel. Heads, cam, headers, tune and other boltons will add well over 100rwhp. Considering the stock motor put about 250 to the wheels that is a dramatic increase in fuel need. Stock were about 24lbs, anything above 30lbs should be fine. 8.1L, TBSS, or 6.2 injectors can all be made to work well.

I've seen that flex fuel injectors flow a good bit better than gas only. Possible to get a tbss intake with flex fuel injectors and kill 2 birds 1 stone? Oh, is there no possibility of adding an adjustable regulator to up the fuel pressure? Not really sure if they are even made. Just asking a question. Thanks for the reply.

Yes you can get a tbss intake or a nnbs intake with the flex fuel injectors...you'll need pigtail adapters or cut and solder new ends. Your factory fuel regulator increases fuel pressure already, but the 24lb injectors will be way over 100% duty cycle at wot.The flex fuelers will be around 70-80% on your combo.

Well I have the heads, just need a clarification on the intake. What year trucks came with the tbss intake? They are 3 bolt t body correct? So I'm going to have to buy aftermarket t body for either tbss or nnbs intake? Oh I know what tbss is but what is nnbs? There is no point using my stock t body even if I could correct? Will flex fuel injectors fit the fuel rails of either intake? Height wise. Thanks for the info so far. Just need some clarification and I'm back to the salvage yard.

Found the nnbs thing. Odd way to refer to a truck line.
