Default new guy looking for advise on 5.3 build

hey everyone, I'm new to the site but Have been reading a lot lately on here. I've been a GM master tech for about 12 years now but have not ventured over to doing much performance mods ever. I'm basically looking for opinions or advice on if this sounds like a good route to take and maybe have some questions answered.

I have a 2005 k1500 l33 with 6 inch full drop lift, 35's and 4.56 gears. it also came with a K&N CAI and magnaflow cat back system. I pulled the engine out to work on this winter due to a head gasket leak and it burning oil. My main goals are more torque while maintaining reliability and most of my fuel economy.

so far I'm thinking BTR stage 2 truck cam, cometic .040 gaskets, head shave, ls7 lifters, high flow oil pump and possibly ebay LT's and/or stall converter.

I'm concerned the LT's won't clear the front shaft and I'm not sure a stall converter will be worth the money for me. now is the time to slide it in though...

I'm open to any suggestions or criticisms

54-450-11 or 54-451-11 are other options. Yes to longtubes. Converter will be best for the big tires...

Thanks for the suggestions. Im really torn on the converter. It looks like some people really don't like the way they drive.

Hard pressed to find a single person on this board hating the way their sub 3000 RPM converter changed their truck. Ha.

I stumbled across a thread on this board recently where several people had regrets about installing 2600-2800 converters so that's good to hear.

any input on the fitment of ebay LT's with a lifted 4x4 truck?

I'm also thinking of going with the texas speed 212/218 .550/.550 112 over the BTR 212/218 .553/.553 113+2...thoughts?

well i think i'm going to stay away from the converter to keep my towing abilities. I'll order the ebay headers and try to make them fit...As for the cams i guess I'll flip a coin

Call and talk to speed engineering before ordering ebay junk.

You can tow just fine with a converter, just get a big *** trans cooler, plenty of threads and site sponsers to help you with that.

Grab a 4bolt intake from the guy selling them here. Just be sure to get the right one as the truck and tbss fuel systems are different. Return vs returnless. Expect 125(dirty or stripped) thru 175 (complete, but alil dusty), donot pay more than 200 (mint like new condistion) for a complete intake with TB. Theres tons of them out there be patient.
Seeing conflicting images and info on the L33, and in unsure if you currently have a 3 or 4 bolt. If you infact have a 4 bolt. Just say "this dudes dumb" and forget that above stuff about the intake. Lol

You will need injectors, I reccomend getting the injectors used from the ctsv forum (100-150$), send them to FIC for flow matching (250$), they come back as 1k cc injectors and will atomize like stock so no idle or driveability issues and then ebay the TOP of the injector hight adapters and the hard plastic plug adapters. Sprox 30$ for both.
Toss a 350 or 450 fuel pump in.
This will solve all of you forseeable fueling.

Call, texas speed and talk cam and converter, also do the trunion upgrade.

Be sure to read about modding oil pump and the oring issues. Good oil, pressure is key to a long lasting engine. Dont listen to any **** about to high of pressure. 40-50 idle swinging to 70-80 at wot is perfect.

Dont forget trans mods, and traction aids. You WILL ned them. Think caltracks or assasin bars. I like the assasin bars, they built beefier and have more adjustability. But most use caltracks.

More to come as you develop your plans.
