Default LS3 Shortblock

I have the opportunity to buy an LS3 shortblock with low mileage out of a Camaro. It would come with the stock LS3 cam. My plan would be to swap my 243 heads, nnbs intake and accessories onto it and install it into my 2008 Sierra. I've got a ticking lifter in my LC9 and have been wanting to delete the AFM for a while now....what better way than to increase displacement at the same time?
So I guess my question is if this is a good idea or not? Will the stock LS3 cam work well with my heads and intake? Will the 243's bump the compression ratio too high? Anything I'm overlooking?
As much as I love high rpm horsepower, this truck needs to make low rpm power as well. It's a heavy crew cab and I pull trailers with it from time to time.
Any advice or experience is greatly appreciated!

Of course its a good idea. Especially if you can get it for a good deal. I'm actually thinking of doing the same thing (one of these days)
That's about all the advice I can give yah

Will it work, Yes.

How ever, the cam is not optimised for cathedral port heads or a heavy truck.

Same with the compression ratio at least for towing. Factory LS3 is something like 10.7:1 on the LS3's 68cc head.

243's are like 65-66 CC

I would go with a 317 - 71cc head and change the cam. I think you would be closer to around 10.4:1 range

Factory LS3 cam specs:

Cam 1: Stock LS3
Lift: .551 in/ .525 ex
Duration @ .050: 204 in/ 211 ex
LSA: 117
