lq4 to lq9 intake manifold swap
I have a 2005 6.0 lq4 with 150k and want power. i want to explore swapping to the lq9 intake, get offset rockers and other items. has anyone done this? will the increased compression blow oil? will i gain the 60 hp? is there something else I could do for low budget?

My experience: at 175 I did Lts, cam and catless and it did blow oil. I'm assuming I have an lq4('01 crew cab 6.0).
I just had a leakdown test done and it was 7-10%. I'm told my oil consumption, about a quart every 900 miles if I behave is almost within GM spec. I also have a catch can.
Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

wooded, I read your post below this one and remembered I had a rocker issue as well. They weren't changed on my build so you may be okay. I didn't know what I was doing and I don't think my builder did either

The LQ4 and LQ9 engines are pretty much identical aside from the flat top pistons in the LQ9 which is why it has higher compression ratio and slightly more power.
You won't gain any power with different rockers, just do a trunnion upgrade on the stockers and you'll be fine. That will fix the rocker problem xdmikey is talking about (stock caged needle bearings can pop out and go through the engine).
Making power and low budget don't really work well together, imo save up and get a supercharger, will probably make all the power you want.
You maybe getting some things mixed up too, when people talk about intake manifold swaps its usually to the newer NNBS (07.5+) intakes and larger throttle bodies that came with them. And changing the intake won't increase the compression ratio of the engine.
As for heads I think LQ9s came with 035s but they have identical chamber and valve sizes as the LQ4s 317s, so there is no point upgrading to those. The usual upgrade is to 243/799s (same specs) that will increase the compression ratio/power.

Not to hijack wooded's thread but since The Beeblebrox is in here, I had the heads and accompanying valves replaced with 241s(takeoff 6.0)and it increased compression(butt dyno).
Can you tell me how much of an increase, ballpark?
Thanks.

I think the LQ4 and LQ9 use the same intake manifold. Offset rockers? They are only used on the L92. Maybe you mean higher ratio rockers like 1.8? If you haven't installed headers yet, that, Airaid MIT/drop in filter, and a tune are the first things to do. That should give you 30 to 40 hp. If you don't already have electric fans, that will free up a few more ponies.
