LM7 to LQ9 swap; Cam suggestions?
So i ordered a 220r cam kit for my LM7 5.3 a few weeks ago... i just came across a LQ9 6.0 that is too good of a deal to pass up so i'm going swap. with that being said.. i need cam spec suggestions for the 6.0.. TSP recommended their 228.. I have full bolt ons, circle d 3000, and 4.11s.. any recommendations for a cam? preferably from TSP so i can just exchange my other cam with no restocking fee charge.

I might be wrong but a 228 intake lobe seems awful big for 4.10s with a 3000 stall. Even if in a LQ9.
For a point of reference, the fastest stock bottom end 6.0 Pontiac G8 runs a 10.5x @ 129-130 mph on motor with a 223 intake lobe and a 2600 stall I believe. It's a different application for sure but you might see where I'm going with that ... You're much heavier with slightly more converter but way less gearing.
Everyone has their own tastes though.

Im gonna say a 224 cam is perfect with this 6.0 and a bigger stall for sure .... i have rear a lot and guys say 6.0 with a tr224 is a very good combo with long tubes, just like 5.3 with a tr220 with a 3200 stall

yeah he did mention a 224 cam, but seemed to being recommending the 228 more... 224 sounds better to me, especially with my heavy crew cab and heavy rim and tire setup.. need help on the bottom end for sure, 228 seems to much on the high end. plus i'm not really lookin to do too much over 80 mph, 0-80 is where i'll be spending most of my play time

I would talk to Kip, the founder of cam motion. He did a 205/210 in a 170k mile 5.3 that was a 'drop-in' camshaft. All the stock hardware like valve springs and pushrods were left in the truck. That truck gained 41rwhp and 22rwtrq. I recall a member here used the baby 215 LSR Comp cam and only saw a 35rwhp gain.
Kip's cams are more expensive at $440 but they're made of better steel than comp and all are cam doctored to insure accuracy. Plus he will spec one to your application at no charge. At least give him a shout and pick his brain.
