L33 500hp build
Hey everyone, new poster here. So i will be tryin to buy a 2006 silverado extended cab 4x4 with the L33. I did check the vin to make sure thats whats in it. Now i want to try to build it up to 500hp. 1st question is will this be streetable since it will be my dd? Next question is what parts will be needed? I have a basic knowledge so i know cam heads exhaust etc. But when i look at the number like air flow or lift duration i go retarded. I have an idea of a few bolt ons i want to add which are:
Banks or k&n cai
long tube headers and true dual exhaust from speed engineering
custom tune.
After that dont really know what to do so any help will be great.
Thanks guys
Btw i should've mentioned i want to stay NA. Dont really want turbos or a blower

I hunted down a L33 based truck to replace our 97 5.7. In my research it seems that 500 HP is obtainable but with a lot of work. I'm trying to add torque down lower for an even more economical tow vehicle...It don't have the grunt the 5.7 had, but overall is a better TV with a few more MPG than we had.
Good luck and I'll be watching

@terravast4 Yeah at the crank. I would love to say id like to obtain 500rwhp but i dont think it would be streetable by then. But like i said my knowledge is limited since i dont have much experience in these matters. Only performance mods i did was with my 03 silverado and that was just banks cai gibson shortys and true dual knock off flowmasters

I don't see that 5.3 ever reaching anywhere close to 500 crank, maybe 400 crank with a big cam, head work, headers, tune.
If you had a 6.0 and made it larger with a big cam, then over 400 crank is going to be much easier to reach.
I'd skip the banks and K&N intake unless you like spending extra money for a name brand. Get a airaid intake tube and mod the stock air box.
How big of cam do you want, like do you want to run a stall converter at all??
Most cams that are going to give you alot of power will need a higher stall converter for sure, then you have to worry about super weak 4L60e blowing up.

Launching!
The first change I'd make to improve towing performance would be a gear swap to some 4.10's. IMHO if you start modding the 5.3 looking for big power, you're going to be moving the powerband up in the rpm range and that's the last thing you want to do for towing performance.

Not quite 500, but they managed 484 out of a 5.3 with ported factory heads and a "shelf cam."

If that's for me... I understand...was hoping to find a truck with 3.73s but after 3 months looking, just couldn't beat the deal on this one. Most of the big power mods are outside the RPM area I'll be in anyway.
I'm just trying to improve my bottom end some.
