Default Installed 243 heads on my 5.3L truck

I have an '04 Silverado 5.3L Crewcab which is my daily. I just put some 243 heads. What else should i put on my engine? What type of cam can i put that'll give me +hp without sacrificing gas mileage i already get 15 mpg. cold air intake? Headers?

Wow you are all over the place with this build. Did you put totally factory fresh 243s with stock chambers? I would think the compression loss would be awful. Lots of good cam choices out there. Same for transmission/diff options. You need a little more direction. Can wise a Speed inc Tu0 or isky triple 12 would be a good option. Diff wise a trutrac or other locker with 4.10 gears if it's a toy or 3.73s if you drive a lot of highway miles would be a good plan pretty much regardless. Plan on building your 60e teams or swapping to an 80e. A stall from circle d or yank would also be a good idea.

They are ls6 243s. Right now i want to put headers and a cam. And then have it retuned. What do you suggest?

did you mill the 243's? if not you just dropped your compression from 9.5:1 stock, to 9.2:1.

should of had them milled at least .020" to bump the compression back up. just had my 799 installed that i had milled .030" to give my 5.3l a 9.9:1 and so far seems to be doing good.

as for cam ether go with a custom grind from pat g or a proven cam. BTR Stage 2 would be a good start.

definitely longtube headers

Texas speed has good stainless headers if you are on a budget. eBay has cold air intakes for about $60 shipped. The 212/218 cam is a great option if you want a stock torque converter.

If you already have the 243's installed and plan on getting long tubes and a CAI you may want to look in to doing a TBSS/NNBS intake to go along with them. Also, try to figure out what all you plan on doing to the engine before you get the cam shaft so you can have one custom spec'd for your setup to get the most out of everything.
