I've got an '02 with a 5.3L I have an FIPK and cat back exhaust. I average at least 17 MPG, and I can get 20 or so on the highway if I don't have to floor it very often. This 17 is also a couple full throttle accelerations on it typically too. I think the key is trying to keep the RPMs under 2,000. I accelerate kind of slow usually, but it pays off at the pump.

A lead foot is a lead foot, and thats all i can say.

My wife went form a stripped 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 I-6 to a loaded 2001 Yukon XL (5.3) and her mpg actually went up. City is a little better and the Yukon does almost 2 mpg better on the hwy than that piece of a Jeep. What is the crazy is a weight difference of almost a ton and almost 100 more hp in the Yukon. Gotta love that Mopar technology or lack there of. Some computer tuning would on the Yukon would only widen the gap.

Default tahoe gas mileage

i have an 01 Z71 tahoe with 4:10 gears. i have added a k&n intake, jba headers, borla cat back. i use mobil 1 in the engine, 75w90 sythetic in the diff front and rear and always use 87 octane. around town im pretty hard on the loud pedal so mpg is about 8-9 but highway i can get 20-21 mpg averaging 70-80+ mph.

Hello all,

I'm looking at FIPKs for my 2001 Tahoe 5.3. I was wondering if it's best to go with the K&N or is it worth the extra money to go with a different more expensive brand? The K&N's seem to be the best priced and are available used more frequently. Also, does anyone know what is the difference in the regular kit and the 77 series, other than the chrome pipe?

Thanks,
Brandon
