your going in the right direction if you dont wont surging problems...
stay away from the 112Lsa's and go with a 114 or smaller this will keep your idle issues to a minimum..
stock is on a 116Lsa I believe

Ok guys, just got off the phone with Vinci and found the perfect cam for my app. I talked to Roger, one of the cam engineers at Vinci and he had one better than the one I listed above. I think I'm going to go with the 200/208 duration cam with a .502/.502 lift on a 114 lobe separation. He said on a 4.8 truck they had with the factory cam it pushed a peak of 235 HP and 245 ft lbs of torque. After the cam swap he said it had a peak HP of 260 with 270 ft lbs of torque. And that's at the rear wheels, NOT the flywheel. He said this was with no mods or tuning. Doesn't this # seem high? a 25 HP increase at the rear wheels simply by doing a cam swap???? and a 35 ft lb increase?! If that's the case, that's incredible! This cam will not require rockets/pushrods or new springs. He said's it's a VERY extremely responsive cam.

How long did the cam swap take you anyways? I need to do this on an afternoon when the women are away so they don't know what's going on So compared to the stock cam, did you lose any low end power? Or is it all around stronger? Did you do anything other than swap the cam at the same time? I thought I saw a thread somewhere where you said you did a head swap at the same time too. Too lazy to search for it

An afternoon might be pushing it... I've done two cam-only installs. (no springs or anything else - I put my springs in earlier in time). They usually went from ~10am to 5pm, with a break or two in between. I'm not exactly a super-fast worker like some on here, but I'm not slow or overly carefull either.

I love doing the swap. There is nothing really hard about it, and you're doing enough different things for it to be fun. There are a number of tricks you need to know...

This place here is a real good thing to read over a few times: http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=23

Yeah I also think this cam will be perfect for what your original priorities were, ie: not changing springs, stock exhaust, nice idle and good low end. Of course I would recommend going bigger primarily because I am insane like most of the other people that post here. The rationale is that if you're getting a tune done it will clear up any driveability issues that may come with a little bigger cam anyway. It's big job so you might as well get everything you can out of it. So I say go with the 044 and change the springs. Just my .02

Default same question different specs

So I've got a lunati cam kit that came with a set of recommended springs and retainers.
Lift @ 0.599
Rocker ratio @1.700
Duration at .050 tappet -232in. 238 ex.

I'm considering putting it into a 2001 Silverado
4.8
Stock 4l60e
Diablo2 tuner
Headers
Upgraded coils to streetfires (needed done anyway)
Cold air intake

Considering something around 3,500 for the stall that is IF this cam will even work with the engines stock heads and intake manifold.
If it won't work with the 4.8 can I just throw it all into a 5.3 ?
Any advice would be appreciated but please note I'm a self taught noob

That's an awful choice. The 4.8 doesn't have enough nuts to make use of this cam.

With the 4.8, I wouldn't go over a 224 cam. Keep the stall, you're going to need it.

This is what people call "over camming a motor".

Ya, that's way too big for a 4.8
