hi guys i have had a redundant problem with my silverado. It keeps getting moisture inside the distributor cap and causing a misfire. My question is there a seal on the distributor cap that i possibly lost or tore? If not how can i keep the moisture out of the distributor cap cause this having to take it appart is getting old

I saw this on another Chevy before. There's no gasket, it could just be that your distributor housing isn't quite "perfect" so the cap isn't mating to the housing with a good seal.

The fix when I ran into this was to put a small bead of silicon on the inside lip of the cap to act as a gasket to seal the distributor up.

Yes there is a seal but to get to it you have to remove the muffler bearing first and that will take you a while just to even find it.

Seriously, these trucks dont have distributors so I'm not sure what you are asking.

i know its more like a coil system but the best way to describe it is distributor

It IS a coil system. Where is this distributor like thing you're talking about?

Are you talking about an older Silverado 5.7 Vortec ??
New body style trucks do not have a dist - they have coil packs sitting on top of the valve covers.

i messed up and put this on the wrong site. Its a 02 4.3 it does have a distributor. This is my daily driver and its driving me nuts. If it doesnt stop im gonna sell it and just drive my camaro around all the time. the hard loping will be better than the hard missing

www.fullsizechevy.com is another good sight for 4.3 performance in a full size truck.

I would try the silicone suggestion, and go from there. Have you tried replacing it? It may have a small crack in the cap.
