Help w/ 5.7 vortec engine mods..
id like to improve the health and performance of my 99 gm 5.7v 2wd. any help or input would be appreciated... i had started my 1st purchase w/ flowmaster exhuast. not looking to run/race truck but want to be able to keep up..
any suggestions on perf headers, intake, heads or cams for reasonable price???

the stock vortec heads are pretty good, alot can be gained from some porting and larger valves and springs that can handle some cam lift. if you're planning on keeping your fuel injection then a performance tune would be the next thing i would do. most tuners offer free retunes for future modifications as well. long tube headers are strongly recommended. inexpensive but decent quality ones can be had from hedman, pacesetter, or summit/jegs house brand (not sure about your application, but worth checking). further modifications really all depend on what you want from the truck

headers, custom tune, 3/4 ton truck y-pipe. The stock fuel injection setup will run out of fuel before you can max out the stock porting of the heads.
Comp makes special retainers that allow the use of beehive springs on Gen I vortec heads. They allow you to run a cam with more lift without machining the valve guides. A small cam like a zz4 cam or LT4 production cam are pretty well liked by many people with 5.7L vortec engines.
Do a tune and full exhaust setup before worrying about the cam though.
