Cometics makes a 0.051 gasket for most motors.

Need a thick gasket.... with a 22.5 thou protrustion and 51 thou gaskets you are still sub 30 thou range for quench. GM MLS gaskets are all around the 51 thou range compressed as well. I would say the wrong pistons were used as usual protrusion is in the 10 thou or less range. It's not a terrible thing to have tight quench as long as your piston to valve is okay.

Cometic can make you any MLS gasket you want up to 0.125 I believe. Mine are 0.080" cometics.

Chevy stacked head gaskets on the old HiPerf 400 and 425 hp 409s to kill compression a little. Most racers just used one-but that was back when you could get good octane at the pump!

Another thing to check will be head to intake alignment if the intake needs milling.
