Default Forgot to mark the Harmonic Balancer

I forgot to mark the harmonic balancer's relationship to the crank before removing it today. Was this necessary / recommended?

The stock pulley is not a balancer. It's just a pulley. Engine is internally balanced.

It is not just a pulley, it is a harmonic damper. It has an elastomer between the hub and pulley. It is neutrally balanced. If it had a counterweight and the elastomer, it would be a harmonic balancer.
Read my book.
