Default Forged 408. Which Heads ?

I bought a brand new forged 408 short block for my 2000 extcab. I have a set of 215 trick flow heads. I'm thinking they are too small. I'm going to run a Comp Cam 239/242 623/610 112. Which heads would you recommend? It will also have all the bolt ons. Thanks. Mike

whats the flow #s on the Trick Flows? If they flow sufficient for you cam... run em! I bet it would be a torque monster!

They would certainly be a torque monster! With a cam that big I would guess this is somewhat max effort though... I'd be lookin for some 225's minimum.

If you have the budget for trick flows, then I would either run the 235's or the rectangle port 255's for sure.

for a 408 with those heads I would probably go a tad smaller. Look for like a 6300-6400 shift thats just brawny as hell. That thing will make power everywhere.

The cam I'd run would look like this (assuming its a toy and not a DD):
231/234 113+3 LSL intake and LXL exhaust.

Do the heads have bronze rockers? If they do make sure you are using a roller rocker and not the stock style... you will kill the valve guides with stock style.

It has HR 1.7 roller rockers. Its going to be my daily but I only drive 5 miles a day. I wont mind a bigger cam in the 228-230's.

I've decided to go with the AFR heads. 230cc runners 65cc with the 408. Cam is going to be 227/235 610/614 112 +2 What do you guys think of my combination.? Any suggestions? mike

Sounds good! Should be a power house. Maybe a tad more exhaust bias than the heads need, but with less advance the valve timing works out very well. It literally splits overlap exactly over TDC. I like it. I'd bet power comes on REALLY strong and it will be happy with a 6200 RPM shift point. It'll take more but on the street you wont need to ring its neck to get good performance out of it. At the track you could set them to 6400-6500 I bet.

Thanks for the good words Vortec350ss. I like that combo too. Now to get this truck up and going !! Probably wont be able to install the 408 till the end of January. We're really busy at the shop.
