Default looking for heads and cam advice

what do you guys know about cams? here is my set up.

i plan on beefing up the lower end with some .030over forged pistions and some rod bolts, stock stroke. then some good heads(gtp stage 2 or 3, ARE stage 2), keep the boost low(5-6psi) and some N2O to top it off, maybe quite abit of it.

what cam would be good for this set up? lift, duration, LSA. i would like to keep some low end and not have to replace valve springs every year but i have alot of low end now so looisng a little wouldn't hurt if it gained alot up top. any advice here?

Cool!

With a cam, just about anything you do to the duration numbers and lift will raise the powerband in rpms. But, with the whipple and the larger bore, you should have plenty of torque so you should be fine. Ask some of the FI guys who have done build ups (Harlan) for advice on a good cam choice. You will wnat something with a split duration and a wide LSA. Maybe a 214/220 on a 116 LSA, you could go bigger, but the rpms at peak will move up too. Your choice.

You might get in touch with a sponsor like Diamond Pistons about getting some pistons with a little more dish to lower your compression. I'd like to see you get down to 9:1 compression. The ford L runs 8.5:1 from the factory. I think it will be easier to run your 91 octane pump with that compression and cut back your KR.

My truck just got finished this past weekend with the tuning. The set up is on my C3.

ARE Stage 2 Blower Heads, lowers compression .5
214/218 112lsa cam with 4 degree adv.
ATI P1SC
42lb injectors with custom harness
LePole headers with 3" collectors
Flowmaster 70 series
Custom LS1 Edit Tuning
Future: Electric fans and Yank Converter

Have not had time to get it back yet but will this week. Guess the truck runs real strong, gonna try and find a AWD dyno sometime soon. Disconnecting the front drive shafts put the truck in limp mode so that does not work. I would not go to high on cam lifts as that is gonna move your powerband real high. Anything over a 220 is alittle much in a truck unless you are going for all out racing and do not mind losing some bottom end. On turbos and centrifical SC, you would like a split duration, not sure about Whipples as I have never been a big fan. 114 will make it idle smoother, but mine is just fine and 112 give you alittle more midrange power. Do not get the regular stage 2 heads as most are milled to raise compression and will cause some detonation problems. Mine are standard height 6.0L heads with enlarged chambers to lower compression a touch. I will post some more results soon when I get it back and post some pics. Thanks to ARE for all the parts for for LG Motorsports for doing all the great install work.

MHLY01 - Are you going to LG (Wylie TX)to pick up your truck? If so, there is a 4 wheel dyno not far from there. RTB (Rockwall Tire and Battery) had a 4 wheel dyno installed last year. Its about 20 minutes south of Wylie.

Did you have LG tune your truck?

Oh Well. Sorry.

I thought that such an expensive 4 wheel dyno was a little out of their league.

Well, talked to the dad for alittle while today, guess his son is moving the dyno and such to Salt Lake City. He said he was left with not much, Seemed like a real good guy though and straight forward with me.

I think the owner has two sons. I met the younger one once. He seemed nice. I think he was getting a GM truck and selling his firebird. He knew of Hamm headers. I don't know much about the brother, but I think he wanted to be the go-to guy at the shop. The father did seem to be a real nice guy. His pre-99 5.7 truck is said to be pretty strong.
