Default Conversion questions. L92/6L80 in an 02 Sierra Denali

So after coming up with the idea to swap a 6.2/6L80 in my truck over the weekend, I was actually presented the opportunity to do so today. A guy bought a 6.2/6L80 pullout and I was going to install it in his 1970 Chevelle. Considering the bottom end should be gone through since it was an eBay purchase, he has offered to trade me for my LQ9/4L65 setup.

Has anyone done a complete Gen IV power train swap into a Gen III truck? I can't imagine it hasn't been done. I plan on getting Current Performance to make a harness for me so that part will be taken care of. I just don't know what to expect with the rest of the swap. The transmission is my main concern. Would I need to change gauge clusters and get a manual mode shifter?

I apologize if this has been covered but I didn't find anything in the search function. Someone please point me in the right direction.

Speartech did this awhile ago, the tcm needs the e38 ecm to comminucate with and your guages ac etc need the original pcm for the signals.. Biggest issue would be the speedometer, as there is no speed sensor on the output shaft of the 6l80, unless you are 4wd then the vss is on the t case output shaft

It won't be. This appears to be uncharted territory.

How ever I think the E67 ECU can be made to work as there was a version that communicated on the class 2 data bus Vs. the Can Bus network.

You are also going to have to solve the issue of mating the NVG-149 to the 6L80. You currently have one of the better available AWD transfer-cases, but it has not been installed in a regular production package since the ’07 Classic model Sierra Denali rolled out and were originally mated behind a 4L65E with its correspondingly smaller output shaft.

There is a 32 spline input available for the nvg-149.... Output on 6l80 is same as a 4l80, just need find the input shaft for tcase and as many 4l80s have been swapped in it has to be out there.

They are available, they are just built to order. Besides the input gear/spline count issue, he will also have to deal with the transmission to transfer-case adapter. Not insurmountable by any means, just something to keep in mind before jumping in.

The bolt pattern for the tcase is the same as the newer 1500 tcases, the tcase to trans adaptor housing gasket is same part number, been collecting parts/info myself a little... Hell i have thought about a 6l80/6l90 with the newer magna floor shfted tcase in my 99 for a while just havent sat down and figured out the wiring yet.... Already have access to a 58x 6.0 crank, so that covered...

I'll purchase the later AWD transfer case if necessary. I just assumed the NVG-149 wouldn't work.
