Default Chevy silverado idles and turns off in cold weather

i have a stock 03 silverado with the 5.3 v8...every morning when it gets cold i start it up, and it idles to the point where it wants to die...as a matter of fact this morning it was around 10 degrees out...after around 5 minutes of being on, it died....another issue is that the CEL turns on as well on when its cold...some times it blinks others it will just stay on...by the way the truck runs perfectly...this is my only issue....any help would be great

A blinking CEL usually means its detecting a lot of engine misfires...

It's not your throttle body. Those trucks have defective intake gaskets in many cases, if their the factory orange ones. The gasket material contracts in extreme cold temps, causing a vacuum leak. Once the engine warms up to operating temperature, in most cases, the heat will cause the gasket material to expand, in turn sealing off the intake leak. The service engine light is coming on because you have un-metered air entering your intake track causing multiple misfires. If your truck sounds like it has a huge cam in it at idle but runs like normal once the truck warms all the way up, and only does it on frigid mornings, you need to replace your intake gaskets. GM put out a service bulletin on this a few years ago.

intake gasket. Just put another engine in my z71 and didn't change the gaskets on the intake. Once we fired it up it would idle rough and even rev up to 2500 and come back down and try to die. O'reilly's had gaskets for about $40. Take you maybe an hour to change em
