Chevy 489 TBI problems
I'm working on a 1994 Chevy K3500 with 454. I have recently changed engine to 489 stroker. Truck was running good before change. Now it appears to have a miss from idle to WOT with very strong exhaust fumes and excessive use of gas, but no check engine light. I have removed 4 spark plug wires at same time with engine running, but it barely made a difference. I have also unplugged every sensor with little or no effect. Modifications include, 489 stroker kit with vortec heads and edelbrock intake, computer chip from Harris TBI performance, high volume fuel pump and modified fuel pressure regulator. Have done the following in attempt to correct problem, new distributor with cap and rotor, new coil, new spark plug wires and spark plugs, new IAC, new o2 sensor, new knock sensor, new map sensor, new coolant temperature sensor, and new ECM, checked all grounds and checked for vacuum leaks, checked engine compression with all cylinders running 150 PSI. Any suggestions?????

In order: check the firing order at the distributor to the plugs. Drivers side: 1-3-5-7 Pass side: 2-4-6-8. Firing order: 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Keep the plug wires separated at least 1/2". Are the plugs and wires new? they should be. If its not a factory or aftermarket hydraulic roller- Did you use the proper cam lube, and lots of it? Was the cam degreed in when installed? The crank keyway at top dead center on #1 cylinder is about at the #2 o'clock position. If not, you are off by several teeth on the cam timing. See: did you degree the cam? What cam is it? Who selected it? Do you have headers? You have issues. Call me at the shop 9-6 M-F or 9-1 Sat. at 623-877-8553. We are in the west Phx,AZ. area. Timinator (Timm)
