cat converter ? came apart internally poss engine damage ?
so my cats came apart in the pipe on my 05 4.8l , when these come apart does the motor suck the converter material into it and cause damage like some other vehicles out there, or will it be ok? it figures i have been trying to get a set of headers and y pipe and they are on backorder , i was driving the other day and heard what i thought was a loose heat shield and before i could check it out it got worse and then threw the converter codes, and discovered that they are falling apart internally. might have to spend the extra cash and get the pace setter ones.

No, these engine don't suffer the same issues the Nissan engines do. On most of the Nissan engines the cat is much closer to the engine, so when it deteriorates the exhaust valves see a lot of heat stress and the potential to recirculate debris. I've even found ceramic in an EGR valve once.

ok thanks, i dont know if im glad or disappointed , it would have been a excuse for a motor build even though i am trying to concentrate my funds on my 52 chevy project. this 4.8 really needs some power help, hopefully a set of headers and tune will help , maybe a cam and rear gear change should do it, i do regret selling the turbo kit i bought for it but never been a huge fi fan , and after dealing with on3 perfromance and the quality of there manifold it was a fairly easy decision to stay na.

it had serious restrictions in the ports like 20% blockage where the primary tubes met the log of the manifold and i paid to send it back to get fixed and they basically did nothing and said it was normal, and that it would still make power which im sure it would have but thats not the point , the point is maximum air flow , it looked worse then a ebay header in my opinion. then he stopped returning my emails, and after reading a bunch of other customer service complaints i decided to just part ways with the kit. its a shame i was really excited about it, i never should have looked inside of the manifold, but even a guy that works for me that has no clue about cars pointed it out, everything else looked decent though
