Default Cam Swap? 2500HD

Looking for more oomph out of my truck. It's an 04 GMC 2500HD with the 6.0L and I'm going to be tearing down the engine and putting new seals and gaskets in it from top to bottom. Has some issues (smokes when it starts, leaks oil, blah blah blah. 250,000 miles). But anyway back on subject, since I'm going to have the engine tore apart anyway I was considering possibly a cam swap? I don't necessarily haul anything with it anymore, but when I do it's usually for helping someone move furniture or whatever, nothing too stressful. With that being said it looks like most people who do engine swaps in these trucks are looking for something to tow better with. I'm mostly looking to have fun if you will lol. I want a decently "lopey" idle and I want the engine to wake up when I hit the gas. I'm not expecting full on race car out of this either. Wanting to keep stock heads (can have them milled if necessary), stock torque converter, etc. Springs, pushrods, and rockers I know will probably need to be upgraded and that's fine. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

2004 GMC Sierra 2500HD
Stock 6.0L
4L80E
Extended cab regular bed
4x4
True dual exhaust, stock manifolds
No lift, 265/75/16 tires

For what you want probably look into one of the btr truck cams or maybe even one of comps mild cams.... The btr usually dont need stall and springs and all that ****

What kind of a grind would I be looking for? I've seen people suggesting 220/224, 216/220, 224/224, and so on.. none of them has really been a huge help

I'm no expert but I would suggest looking at cam motion "drop-in" 6.0 stage 2 truck cam, 212/216 .518/.510. I wouldn't go any bigger on the stock converter or it won't be any fun.

As already suggested, the BTR truck cams have a good reputation - BTR = Brian Tooley Racing. You could call him and get set up right.

Im not an expert either just goin off what op was saying, basically a decent upgrade over stock but nothing outrageous... Personally hadnt looked at the cam motion stuff much, but as far as specing cams out there are a few guys on here (ie vortech350ss) who can spec you a cam, if you want something a bit more tailored to your setup...

I removed my sarcasm, totally wasn't directed at you. I agree, BTR is a great option and good suggestion.

What kind of significant power increases would I be looking at going with one of the BTR or cam motion cams at a stage 2?

Sorry, I can't answer that one. I would call the shop and ask the guy who designed it, I hear they are great to talk to, excellent customer service. Or get lucky and find someone who has ran it and maybe dyno'd it. Without swapping your converter, I feel the bigger question to ask yourself when choosing a cam swap is how much power are you willing to lose at lower RPM.
Hopefully someone will respond with actual experience. Let us know what they say if you do call. I'm planning to do the same thing with my 5.3 this summer, either the BTR stage 1 or the cam motion 5.3 drop-in stage 2.
