Also, the hi-flow TPI intake (or GM TPI intake) would give you more off the line torque at the expense of 5500+ RPM horsepower. If it's a street truck, you'll enjoy the low end torque more and you could make a few bucks pulling stumps for people.

For Gen I truck engines, I liked the comp cams 260HR. You wouldn't want to go too much bigger for a truck with stock stall converter. Check out cam selections for comp cams at CamQuest ? I've been waiting to hear alittle feed back on that intake but most threads die off before anything comes back.. its gonna be a everyday driver/street truck...

With the right cam, 400+ Ft/lbs of torque early in the power curve should be easy. A good cam would also help to flatten out the power curve

Comp Cams 252 XFI HR13 grind with a GM tuned port injection (TPI) will get you over 420 ft/lbs of torque at 2500 RPM. That is the definition of a hard pulling truck motor in my humble opinion.

Keep in mind the tunnel rams are designed to maximize horsepower, almost always at or above 5000 RPM. The GM TPI intake was originally designed to bestow torque upon the gutless 305 engine. Once GM decided to put 350s in cars again, they stuck with the TPI intake because they knew the extra low end torque would make buyers smile during the test drives. Their greatest problem is that they tend to max out too early with too much air restriction above 5000 RPM
