Default Build for fellow service member.

Looking for some help from the forum. I know there is a search function but I would rather have a thread to go off of for this.

So.. I am helping a fellow Navy guy buy his first ls truck. 2006 Silverado 1500. currently has a 5.3l 2wd. truck is lowered with some SS 20in wheels, clean truck. Going to do a 6.0l swap so here are my questions.

For the 6.0l-
Good street DD cam
Decent long tube headers
anything else you recommend?

I am going to be re doing the suspension and installing a black widow "widow maker" muffler.

here is the deal, truck is $5500 and he is giving me 3 grand to build the truck. So what I am asking is, IF you had 3 grand to play with what would you do? buy a 6.0l or ?? thanks..

I wouldn't mess with the 6.0.

It'll cost you 1k to do a cam alone.
Another 600 to do headers and exhaust

There's half the budget
Not much left over for the 6.0

You could add nitrous to the cam/headers/exhaust and end up around 3k

You could also do an LSA blower and come in right at the 3k mark, with everything else stock

I should have said, I am doing all of the work and installing the engine. I can also pick up a 6.0 for about $800

I assumed you were. If you can get a 6.0 for that cheap then give it a shot.

I'd say the 6.0, cam, headers, exhaust, tune will consume the whole 3k.

You wont want anything too huge seeing as you want to stay DD. You need to think about manners as well as not killing MPG. That said a decent cam in a 6.0 will be absurd compared to the stock 5.3 thats in it.
