Blower Cam
Hey fellas,
I have a buddy who has a forged 5.3 with 243 heads making 10.4:1 in his truck with a mp112 on top. He wanted a blower cam and was pointed to a Comp LRB289 HR114, which he then bought. This cam specs out at 239 243 .624 .624 on 114. This cam belongs in a 400-ish cu.in engine, not? He wants to run a 2200 stall in front of an 80e. I attempted the idle tune on it last night and am having some difficulty already... Is there going to be much under the curve here with this setup?

Thats what im thinking...way too much cam for boost i believe. I think he should call TSP or something and talk to them guys.
What about a Z06 cam supposed to be a great budget boost cam? WAY cheaper.

That's WAY too much cam for a 5.3L (or 6.2L for that matter). I have one in the for sale section that would play nice with even a stock converter. Probably make as much power too. He wouldn't get the big lope but also wouldn't get drivability/tuning issues. Who the hell suggested he buy that cam from Comp?

Ya, thats kinda what i was thinking... Just wanted to back it up with some other experience or thoughts from u guys. Believe it or not he phoned in to comp with his setup and an actual comp rep recommended that bump stick. Probably asked for an aggressive cam for a roots setup, found the first one with big numbers and blower in the description and slapped it off on him. Not really tailored to his app at all.. Well we'll see if we can make him happy.. Its in the truck already, so either we're gonna have a lumpy as hell 5.3 or big cam for sale. lol I guess he is a actually running at 2600 stall.. but still... :S
