Default Another Comp Cam eats it...

So apparently this is a fairly normal occurrence for Comp cam lobes. Lifters weren't spun nor were the rollers stuck. They were hacked up from rolling through the mountain passes though, except for the lifter on the exhaust lobe near the top- the roller was in pristine condition.

Damn! Any idea what caused that? Low oil pressure? Running nitrous? How long was the cam in the motor and how many miles?? My cam is almost just like yours.. From EPS right there in Baton Rouge.

Man that looks bad, im also interested in how many miles it had and if you were running special when it happened.. I was most worried about valvetrain failure when i built my engine so the cam, cam bearings, lifters, rockers, and valves got a very heavy coating of assembly lube. That sucks man but it sounds lile you could salvage the lifters.

God damn it I hate seeing this. What type of oil did you run and how many miles?

55k, been having odd misfire issues since about 45k though. Only ever seen Pentosin super performance or Royal Purple. Both high in ZDDP. No boost or nitrous, made it about 3 years I think? Engine was fully rebuilt 20k ago, cam had some uneven but not scored wear patterns on these lobes but I wasn't up for dropping more money at the time.

No oil pressure issues, still held good even after the #1 exhaust lifter spit out its guts in the lifter tray. Ran terribly and sounded like rocks in a blender though.

According to Geoff at EPS he is no longer using Comp due to these failures. I suspect they use inferior cam blanks.

I'm doing all new lifters because I had a clip failure on the #1 lifter.

The oil BS needs to be put to rest. All of these junked comp cams look the same, including how mine looked. If you're currently running a comp cam, I'd pull it and replace it with another vendor.

Man. I have 30-40k miles on my cam, makes me nervous. But I have to think this is a 1 in 500+ occurrence, I'd speculate that if it were more, it would be all over the forums (this is the first I've come across it in my years on the forums).
