Default Another cam thread.

I know I could search for days, and I haven't really, I will admit...however, I have lurked many threads for a while. There are just too many BS threads offered up when you search.

I am looking for a cam that is easy on a daily truck on all levels. I don't want to stall if I don't need to, but will if it's necessary. Ever since this thread: https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...-435536/page2/ I've wanted something similar. If I stalled, I considered the Circle D 278 mm due to a few threads.

For those willing to be patient, and are knowledgeable, feel free to offer up some pointers or advice, or even link me if you don't want to go through the troubles of typing. I am in no rush, and just gathering info in the hopes to bite the bullet later in the year, or early next year.

Thanks in advance

What size stall converter are you considering?

One of the most popular camshafts we see is the 212/218 camshaft as it has a great powerband, and excellent street driving characteristics. It will work great with a stock converter, but will work even better with a higher stall. Here is a link to our site:
Comp Cams 212/218 LSx Cam "HIGH LIFT"

*note: this camshaft will require a bigger valve spring than stock, we also recommend hardened pushrods as well...

i think like most you will eventually move up to a bigger cam even if for just a daily driver so i think if you are going to cam and willing to stall, might as well go with a tr220. you can use ls6 springs as it is easy on the springs and hardened pushroda of course. the tr220 is a well proven cam, takes the guessing out of the equation. tsp has a similar grind that is just as good. feel free to pm me with any ?s if you wish. glad to help anyone anytime....good luck and GOD Bless, Rob....

@Jake I'm not too sure on stall, but I want something easy to DD. 3200 max, someone suggested 2600 for ease of driving.

@low2001, I am taking it all into consideration, but I also want to not kill my wallet via gas. I know many people will chime in and say "gotta pay to play" or you shouldn't worry about MPG and performance together" but I disagree. I'm in it more for a little mods sake, and to not break the bank. This way I can judge if I like it, and go bigger later on once the truck is not a primary vehicle.

That, or I can go big and deal with it later on. I'm still on the fence, but prefer a small cam for now.

Comp's 212/218, vinci's trucker or either of the 220/220 cams IMO.

Being that its a crew cab truck, I think the 212/218 would be the best bet, the stock stall would work perfect for now and if you decided to run something a little bigger for the converter later, I think either of those sizes would be fine.

Personally, if it were mine for a dd, I would run the 212/218 camshaft with something like a 2600-2800 converter, full bolt-ons, a good tune, and possibly cylinder heads later.
This would give you a decent bump in power, a good noticable feel in the seat, but yet still keep it dependable, and most important easily driveable.

Thanks Jake, I was already considering 243's. Coupled with my lt's and a new tune it should be fun.

Sub'd... I'm in the same boat. I had stock48 spec me a tvs1900 spec cam in sig. He said it will run good on the motor too. I got a deal on some tsp 2.5 heads with prc dual valve springs ($400) from a buddy. I plan to mill them .030 and try the tsp 220/220 on a 112. The circle d isn't too loose, it's perfect in my opinion! And my truck being just a bit heavier z71 isn't bad on the "looseness" with my 4.56 gears and a 33".
