Default Adding timing chain tensioner/ dampener to LM7?

I've got the motor torn down to the shortblock and I see the LM7s don't have a timing chain tensioner like the LS2/LS6/LS3 etc. I'm installing an LS2 chain while its apart, should I still and tap the block for a tensioner?

What timing set are you going to use?

Is it recommended to use a tensioner at a certain HP limit? And if so what is that limit?

The tensioner doesn’t become beneficial at any particular horsepower level, it is useful at any power level, as it enhances cam timing stability and extends chain life by reducing the amount of whipping back and forth that takes place during operation.

If you then wonder why it’s not installed on all the LS style engines if it’s so beneficial, thank the bean counters.

Wow you would think that it would behoove them to install a small inexspensive part that improves timing and chain life so there is no chance of warranty issues. Then again I have heard horror story's of people finding them in there oil pans. I guess they have found out the motors last long enough to be out of warranty without them and the bean counters get bonuses for saving money.

Depends. Only way to know for sure is to assemble and turn the motor over to check for chain to cover contact. The oil pump has no affect on this.
