Default need cheap posi, spool

My friend has a 91 scsb chevy, with a 383 stroker an just a bunch of other stuff to. But he is only running his truck at the track, its not a daily driver. So there for he wants a full posi. An he is trying to find a spool for his truck. Im not sure if there called a spool or not but does anyone know what im talking about? It fits inside your locker an makes any rearend a full posi by locking the axles. Is this right or not. If so does anyone know where he could find one for his truck at. He just has a GM factory 10 bolt rear end right now.

An what gears do you think he should put in it? He has a 3:08 right now but he wants at least 3:73s or 4:10s, what do yall recomend?

you can weld the spider gears together.....it's the cheapest spool you can buy, but if you do ANY driving on the street you WILL bind up the rear-end around corners and break stuff. I ran a welded-rear for about 6 months at the track on a '69 Nova with a bored/stroked 400 making over 550hp, I even drove it to the track home a few times when the guy that owned the trailer I used needed to use it himself

This is certainly not the best or even a recommended way to add positraction to the rear of a vehicle....but it does work, alot of off-road guys do this because it IS cheaper that air-lockers or full-spools

If you weld it, just weld the spider gears together, but don't weld it to the case. This is where I made a mistake before, and wound up cracking the carrier because I was trying to weld cast (carrier) to forged (spider gears). Live and learn.

I would just drop a lock right in there for the time being. They are around $300 and install with simple hand tools. They are not the strongest option though, but it does meet your cheap qualification.

Also, check with Randy's Ring and Pinion to see if they sell a mini spool for the 10 bolt. If someone makes one, Randy's sells it. I don't know which board sponsers might have one.
