5.3 Cam Swap
#21
Since the asa cam is so amazing I would like other opinions on cam and converter for my ccsb lm7. 35" tires with 4.56's. but wondering if only good cam is 212-218 I keep hearing about or if something lil bigger would benefit more. Want more bottom end than 5k+ power being a DD. Any experience/advice is greatly appreciated.

read this entire guide before responding to anyone in this thread please

like stated before, if you want to kepp your stock stall, the biggest you want to go 212/218 low lift, i would personally get the 206/212 for a stock stall, but if i was in your position i would get the 212/218 and get a Trailblazer stall converter which is about 2600 on ebay for another $180. now with either of these cams you aren't going to see 50 hp gains. maybe 20-30hp on top of the 15 from LTs. a tsp220 is WAY too big for the stock stall btw

I'm getting ready to install a 216/220 .560 114 cam in mine. It's the same cam that TFS is but under the brand name Elgin E1838P. There's a couple left on ebay for $235 which is a steal and you can run LS3 springs and stock pushrods. My friend put one in his 5.3 and gain 40hp to the tire. Can be used with a stock stall but I'm going to do a TB stall and 4.10 gears soon. He loves the cam and it's a great cam if you ever throw a turbo on it. I'm sticking with my stock manifolds for now because I'm still torn between turbo or just putting LT's on it and leaving it at that since it's my daily. I'm guessing I'm about 240-250 at the tire now after my tune and NNBS intake and if I break 280 I'll be happy. Just remember the bigger the cam the higher you're going to have to spin that motor. Fine if you're a 5 speed but a 4l60 will laugh and scatter trying to shift at 6500. I'll post my dyno sheets in a couple weeks when I have it installed and retuned.
