Default 5.3 Cam/Bolt Ons build! Need help!

Ok so I have a 2000 Silverado 5.3 with 183k miles on it. Right now has K&N cai, poweraid tbs, corvette servo, and shitty flowmaster muffler. I'm wanting to cam it and add some bolt ons to make it an ls monster for a daily street truck.(not gana rebuild it because the way I see it these engines can take a beating and keep on ticking an if it isn't using oil why waste time and money on an engine that's already broke in and ready to run down some fords?) Thinking a TSP 224 cam kit, bigger # injectors, 3.73 gears, long tubes, 243 milled heads, 3600 stall, may do an intake swap. I just don't want to get too big with the cam I know a 228r is just too big. I want to build good power but also gana be a daily driver. Any opinions or other builds to help me decide on my build direction? Thanks!

I don't think you will need larger injectors. The combo looks solid though! Probably would be wise to put a new ls2 timing chain on, which mean you will have to remove the oil pump, and if you have to remove that bastard probably be wise to replace your high millage pump.

If you have the 243s milled 0.03" it should get you in the ball park of stock 9.5 comp. You will need a pushrod length checker to obtain a proper length pushrod, especially the case for milled heads.

As far as the intake goes, you are planning on a healthy size cam and larger port heads, so the nnbs intake would help benefit the combo by allowing the motor to breath. I'm all about lowend power for my dd which the stock intake manifold and 706/862 heads are best for! However, you are skipping/moving the lowend power up the rpm band, so a larger flowing/volume of air from intake/heads would benefit your combo.

I bet with stock wheels/tires this combo would put down a solid 350rwhp!

Oh I forgot, if you are on a budget and the truck is not a show truck you don't have to buy the most expensive headers.......they all essentially make the same gains, probably within 1-5hp of each other.

My pacesetter LT ceramic coated cost me around $350 and still look almost new 40K later.

Yeah it's kind of a budget build but not too cheap I'm working and saving money for it to do it when it warms back up. And it's a race/show truck lol but I was thinking of going with the PaceSetter lts I've heard for that price they give great performance and great sound. Could you give mea lil more info on the ls2 timing chain pros and install requirements? And I think I'm gana try to run the tbss intake. Also if I get pushrods from TSP with the kit could I tell them I'm gana mill a set of 243 heads and see if they have specs on the rod length and if they can send me some or is that too much of a dream lol

The ls2 chain is stronger than the stock chain. Chains wear out and stretch over time. You will need to google/youtube how to swap the chain, I don't feel like trying to type the process haha

As far as the pushrods go, the easiest way is to use non milled heads and a 7.4" but even this could be wrong b/c every motor is different and could possible need a different length pushrod. TSP will tell you the same thing, going to need a pushrod length checker.....especially for milled heads.

Yeah I think the kit from them comes with a length checker. And also I had a question idk if you know or not but do you believe a stock g80 rear end will hold up to the power or should I invest in a aftermarket locker?

g80 will be fine! I would worry more about it, if you were running boost or nitrous, but even then I would run it till it breaks.

If you plan on changing gears, then I would go ahead and replace the g80 as well while you are in there.
