Default 5.3 build

So I'm in need of some help. I have a 08 Silverado 5.3(323) and have run into the typical problem of needing pistons and rings. I am planning to rebuild it but would like to upgrade a few things. I am possibly gonna get a AFM delete depending on my budget I am also looking for advise on a cam I could use that gives a little more pep in its step I'm not looking to go crazy fast with it just give some more power and have a noticible sound difference if possible. Also if anyone else has built a 5.3 to make some power on a decent budget I wouldn't mind knowing the details. I would rather not have to modify everything to just put a cam and lifters but any information you can give me would be extremely helpful don't know to much about all the different cam specs and everything

The pistons should be fine but you may have stuck piston rings if you are burning tons of oil and if you are you should just remove the DoD/AFm system. Valve stem seals can also cause burning oil too if you are having that issue.

I'd go with a DoD delete, price out your parts to get the best deals. Cam, cam gear, valley plate, lifters, lifter trays etc for the swap. You can go with a 3 bolt cam and cam gear once you delete the DoD.

Are you wanting to keep the stock stall converter for the transmission on this build?? That will determine the cam size you should go with. Then a set of headers and a tune, truck should run pretty strong with those mods.

Well I work at a Chevy dealer and the truck has 153k miles and cylinder #6 spark plug came out with oil and a insane amount of carbon build up just put the plugs in about 8k miles ago. I would like to keeps the factory stall converter would be less id have to buy for it and just get a cam that will work for that and was gonna get headers too also talking to someone I know about tuning it once it's back together

I had the same problem and went with a BTR truck II with tune on a stock stall and manifolds.
