Default 4.8 2008 silverado questions

New member on this page, truck is basically stock, with some long tube headers on the way as well as 3 inch y pipe exhaust system.
Im looking to add a cam, but have no idea which one would work best in my 4.8 , keep in mind that its my daily driver, so im leaning more towards a mild camshaft. Any real world suggestions about a cam that will work efficently?
Im planning to add a procharger in my truck in a couple of months, can I run on 8 or 9 lbs of boost safely in my truck since engine is stock?
Procharger mentions that it is designed for use on stock engines, but **** Im kinda skeptical lol

Do you want a stall converter or no?

Something in the 212/218 cam size would be okay without a stall.

No stall converter, what improvements can I expect from that camshaft?

To many variables to give you accurate answers.

A good bump in horsepower and torque though. Most of that depends on where you live and how good the tune is.

I'd also suggest upgrading the gear ratio, those 4.8 trucks always seem to run those terrible 3.23/3.42 in 4 speeds. Upgrade to some 3.90's or 4.10 if you want to wake that thing up.

why is this under politics? haha

Cams are gonna be +20 to 100hp, depends on how radical you get, tuning, supporting mods and what sacrifices youre willing to make.

Typically you can expect 30-40 min from most off the shelf offerings.

I live in south texas, im running on 373 gears,. I heard some stuff that during the installation of the new cam, you have to change lifters, is it recommended or is it a must do thing? For the procharger, is it safe to run on 8 or 9 lbs of boost? Something to mention is that I don't push my truck to the limit, just the occasional 30 roll or deadstop takeoff.
Im on a stock 4l60 tranny though, i know that the 4l80 is way stronger but Ive also heard that it is more heavier. Down here in texas, there is a performance shop that builds 4l60 trannys that withstand 700 horsepower, so Idk , any info on which would be better for the procharger?

Lifters: not unless you have a DOD/AFM engine, or they are making noise
8-9= yes. Run more. Probably would breach ~600hp for a DD tho
4L80 is about 60lbs more. Not enough to notice

The procharger will be nicer to the 60 than a roots or big turbo. I wouldnt spend the money on a 60, because the 80 swap isnt hard. A stock 80 will take what that 4.8 can throw at it. get a late model 4L80 from the yard, freshen it up, new fluid and filter. Shift kit if you want; $1000 MAX.

In a 5.3 the TSP 212/218 600/600 112 cam made over 50 HP at the flywheel. The 212/218 would work pretty well as a 4.8 boost cam. Even on a 112 LSA you wont have to worry about boost leak and the lower duration will bring in your low end and mid range until you get into boost. I would use the 600/600 lift lobe instead of the 550/550 lobe. The 600 lobe made more power and torque, and also carried the power better on the high end.

A converter would not be required, but would definitely bring the truck to life. As far as boost and the converters go, if you decide to eventually get one, I would strongly consider a converter specked for boost.

Dont forget to you will need to delete the AFM if you cam it

4.8's don't have AFM/DoD, so he'll be alright there.

Thanks for the info guys, as for my engine, can I run on stock internals, or should I upgrade stuff in the engine? God damn 600hp would be a whole other animal for sure!
I heard that 4.8 handles boost nicely, im just planning on hitting at least 460hp, but I wouldn't mind a bit more hp
