Default 06 Silverado 5.3 to ls1 swap help.

Hey guys I have a 2006 Silverado 4 door that I have had sense 2008. It now has 200k+ miles but still runs like a champ. A guy from my car club is selling a ls1 with 75k miles and offered it to me for $400 with full accessories including long tubes. How hard of a swap is this? Can I use my stock wiring harness? Any threads of people doing this swap?

Your in your head to much,

Move over your accessories/intake/sheet metal (valve covers, oil pan, etc). The longtubes probably won't work if they are for a car.

It really is that easy. Might as well put a cam in it since you'll have it out.

Only if you want to loose your low end grunt. This is wear the truck intake shines. It produces more low end grunt.

Use YOUR intake, sheet metal and your accessories and you won't have an issue. Tune it and you're g2g.

If you want, yes. I would recommend a NNBS intake. It's cheaper/better. You'll need an x-link to connect the larger tb to your wiring harness.

I've done the swap in my 04 truck that I no longer have, it's mostly a direct swap. The ls1 has one less bolt hole for the a/c bracket but never was a issue. The grounds that you usually bolt to the back of the truck engine will needed to be bolted to the drivers side head. I would run the nnbs/tbss intake and cam it while its out.

Can I use the regular truck headers? Any advice on a cam? Something I won't need to ad a stall, but will help open the motor up a bit?

The headers / exhaust manifolds will bolt up. Try and drop in the f-body headers (I assume that's what they are) if you already have them... I've heard that they fit in the nbs trucks, but actually never saw it with my own eyes. Report back with findings!

As far as cheap cams... super mild would be LS6 territory. They can be had super cheap on the forums and ebay if you keep your eyes open. Larger and you start running into stall/tune requirements as it seems you've already picked up on. For what it's worth, one could argue that even the factory tunes can stand for some improvement so, maybe worth adding to your list regardless of what other mods you decide to settle on.

At any rate, $400 complete LS1? Buy it even if you don't use it. Sell it and make money.
