There isnt any fluid transfer into the tailshaft housing on a 6l80/90 and gm recommends lubing the input shaft of the trabsfer case, even have a part number for it.... Straight from SI "For MYC and MYD transmissions (dry cavity) applications only, apply GM P/N 12345879 (Canadian P/N 10953511) or equivalent lubricant meeting GM Specification 9985830 to the input shaft splines."

Ok cool, that's good to know. So basically with the 6-speeds you're fine? I remember reading about the fluid transfer issue but now that you mention it, I think the thread was about NBS trucks (4-speed). Thanks for your help.

Is it more likely that the rear diff would outlast the spline shafts going in/out of the t-case? Unfortunately there is no clunk noise going into gear, so I can't get under there and listen. This may sound crazy, but it sounds as if it's coming from the center of the truck and not the back.

They are at the time stamps I listed, it's just much easier for me since I know exactly what to listen for. I can even hear it from the speaker of my android phone.

I know when I didn't do a great job installing a new ring and pinion gear in the rear it would make noise on decal just as you are describing. When the converter is locked the whole drivetrain is solid except for lashes between the ring and pinion at the rear and the splines on the shafts. Get under there and move around the rear drive shaft and see how it sounds.

I gotcha. Unfortunately there is absolutely no play in the driveshaft. I'm a pretty strong guy and I was really getting on it just now. So solid it seems welded.

You really need the rear wheels off the ground to test it to release any pressure that the park mechanism on the trans is holding. Even a perfectly fine setup has *some* backlash.

Ok, that'll be next. Hopefully I'll hear the clunk. Thanks
