Default Transgo or sonnax

Alright guys and gals, i have searched and can't find a general consensus of whether to use the transgo 4l60e-hd2 or sonnax performance pack or a mixture of the transgo kit and the sonnax accumulators (knowing i would have to use the oe accumulator springs). Also whether to use the sonnax hd 2-3 valve or not!! Im building a 4l60e with alto red eagle clutches and kolene steels with a zpak 3/4, my vette servo should be in tomorrow. I know most everyone uses the transgo kit, but dont plan on racing the truck just want firm, crisp shifts and to help the tranny live a while longer than they typically do!!!

After comparing the 2 in my hand I like the Sonnax stuff better.

Its been a while on the 2-3 Valve but I remember talking with some one at great length about it. The consensus was to run it. It would help with longevity of the trans.

The Alto clutches don't like heat. After talking with some builders The Oe Clutches or The High Friction clutches are the way to go. You can run a Z pack for the 3-4 or get the Alto kit.

I have brand new red Alto clutches and Kolene steels still in the package.

I like using the transgo with the sonnax boost valve seals way better than transgo..and for frictions use borgwarner high energy for the 3/4 nothing else...try and use a good 7-8 clutch setup with kolene steels also make sure to get new apply and backing plates..any help you need let me know

Ive already got the alto red eagle clutches and kolene steels along with the zpak.... Ive had good luck with alto in the past (grabted was in th350), just trying to figure out shift kit/improvement portion, if this trans im building goes out, im gonna have gone through the Mad Dog thats in the truck now and see how bad i got ripped on it.. Thinking on the second one ill go borg warner or raybestos hi energy throughout instead of oiecing it together like i have with this one.... Doesnt the trango kit accomplish the sane as the hd 2-3 vlve with a different process??

Here is what it say about it.

"The Sonnax valve applies the over run clutch in D3, 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears for added durability, where the OE valve applies the overrun clutch only in D3, 3rd gear.

Applying the overrun clutch in 1st and 2nd provides added durability to the input sprag and forward clutch in heavy duty vehicles, plow trucks and high performance applications"

Had read somewhere that the transgo accomplished the same thing as the hd2/3 valve but with a different approach, thinking im gonna go ahead and do the sonnax kit with the 7cs kit and hardened pump rings from transgo..

use the sonnax pump spring a purple one..also altos will work anywhere inside the transmission except for the 3/4..theres alot of people that run them but alot of them do not last that long they dont take the heat too good like the BW high energys..its about 20 bucks to swap to BWs..also make sure to replace the ac delco 3rd accumalator valve behind the servo..also id like to see what mad dog did on your 4l60 lol they use the ZPAK based on some videos if seen on youtube

I plan on taking pics when i get to tearing it down.... Cant really complain much about it though ive gotten like 60k out of it so far just my 1-2 shift sucks and always has, thinking it was converter being tight as hell and for an 1800 stall was more like a 1600, and i have gotten p1870 twice which they said shouldnt have...guess what i get for trusting someone else to do what they say.... Part of reason im building one....

1-2 shift has nothing to do with converter..if your getting a soft shift id recommend getting a new ac delco drum with a alto wideband..leave the 1-2 accumalator with stock springs..drill 1-2 feed hole to .93..it will shift real nice at part throttle and wide open will give tire chirping shifts
